It depends on how you retrieved the case study. If the case study was posted as a PDF in your course website, don't give the URL for for the course site in your reference as that information won't be useful to anyone outside your course. If the case study was retrieved from an open website, include the URL in the electronic retrieval details. Finally, if the case study was retrieved via an online database, provide a digital object identifier (DOI) or the database name in the same way that ebooks are referenced.

For example:

Nicholls, C., & Ellement, G. (1997). Ellen Moore (A): Living and working in Korea (Case Study No. 9A97G029). London, Canada: Richard Ivey School of Business.

  • In-text citation: (Nicholls & Ellement, 1997, p. X)

Gordon, M. (2010). So you want to be a social entrepreneur: Starting out, scaling up and staying committed [Case study]. Retrieved from

  • In-text citation: (Gordon, 2010, para. X)

Peters, C., Thomas, J., Aponte, M., Connelly, R., & Judge, S. (2014). Media Arts Group and the case of channel conflict [Case study]. Retrieved from Gale Business Insights: Global database.

  • In-text citation: (Peters et al., 2014, para. X)
