How do I cite a confidential document?

For example, a document that will not be made public or something that requires security clearance to view it

Please make sure that you have the necessary permissions in place (and in writing, if necessary) before you quote or paraphrase from a confidential source or document. Remember that submitting your essay for grading equates to publishing the information provided within the text, and if you're citing sensitive information, your source or organization might not be comfortable with the information going public. Please also see "Citing Controversial Personal Communication"

If you're citing from a document that isn't publicly available, please use the format for personal communication to cite the information.
